The year 2012 brought us many highs and lows — from Felix Baumgartner’s jump into the record books to James Cameron’s venture into the depths of the Marianas Trench. But most of the highs and lows we experienced in the year gone by had little to do with altitude; rather, they probed the full spectrum of human experience and emotion.
There was the excitement of the Royal Jubilee, the triumph of Nik Wallenda over Niagara Falls and the euphoria of the Summer Olympic Games in London. There was also, however, the devastation of Superstorm Sandy, the horror of the Newtown, Conn., shootings and the sober reflection sparked by the death of Amanda Todd.
